Wular lake| Achhabal | Harwan

Wular Lake stands as a monumental testament to nature's grandeur, earning its place as the largest freshwater lake in Asia. Spanning an impressive length of 24 kilometers and boasting a breadth of 10 kilometers, this majestic waterbody is nestled between the picturesque towns of Bandipore and Sopore in the Kashmir Valley.

Bandipore graces the eastern and northern banks of Wular Lake, while the Madhumati and Erin Nallahs gracefully flow into its pristine waters from the eastern side. To the south, the Jehlum River seeks passage through the lake en route to Baramulla, adding to the natural allure of this breathtaking landscape. At the heart of Wular Lake lies the charming Zaina Lank Island, a tranquil oasis crafted by the hands of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin, which adds a touch of mystique to the surroundings. Many believe that Wular Lake is the remnant of the ancient Satisar Lake from prehistoric times, further enhancing its historical and cultural significance.

Achhabal, located a mere 8 kilometers from Anantnag and nestled at an elevation of 1660 meters, stands as a cherished tourist spot in the region. Formerly known as Akshavalla, this enchanting destination was founded by the illustrious King Aksha. However, it is the ancient spring surrounded by terraced gardens that truly steals the spotlight, drawing visitors from far and wide. The upper portion of the garden, aptly named 'Bagh-e-Begum Abad,' is a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of Noor Jahan, adding a touch of regal elegance to this verdant paradise.

Harwan, on the other hand, enchants visitors with its sprawling gardens adorned with vibrant flower beds and majestic China trees. A picturesque canal meanders gracefully through the heart of the garden, its waters sourced from a tranquil lake nestled behind the verdant foliage. Popular among locals and tourists alike, Harwan is a favored destination in Srinagar for picnics and leisurely excursions, offering a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
