RAJOURI TOWN | J&K

Rajouri, a picturesque town located approximately 150 km from the bustling city of Jammu, is nestled amidst towering hills and the snow-capped peaks of the Peer Panjal Himalayan range. Its scenic beauty and historical significance make it a noteworthy destination in the region.

With a rich historical legacy, Rajouri holds a special place in the annals of Mughal history. It was once a favored retreat for the kings and queens of the Mughal Empire, who were drawn to its captivating landscapes and tranquil surroundings.

While Rajouri boasts a diverse population representing various religious faiths, the majority of its inhabitants adhere to Islam and Sikhism. However, the town is also home to followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, and other faiths, reflecting its cultural and religious diversity.

Despite its historical and cultural significance, Rajouri remains relatively undiscovered as a tourist destination. However, there are a few notable attractions that deserve attention from visitors. One such site is the revered Ziyarat of Shadhra Sharif, dedicated to the revered saint Baba Gulam Shah Badshah. This sacred shrine attracts devotees from far and wide, who come to seek blessings and offer prayers.

Additionally, the surrounding areas of Amandi, Dharhal, Budhal, Bakori, and Prori Gujjran in Tehsil Kotranka also hold immense potential as tourist spots. These scenic locales are blessed with natural beauty, including lush green valleys, gushing rivers, and panoramic views of the majestic mountains.

While these sites may be lesser-known compared to popular tourist destinations in Kashmir, they offer a unique opportunity for travelers to explore the hidden gems of Rajouri district. With proper infrastructure and promotion by the tourism department, Rajouri has the potential to emerge as a sought-after destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and spiritual seekers alike.
